Thursday Email – Maybe This February Calls For The Awakening Of The Fifth Monk

It’s the first Thursday of February, and we think it’s time to introduce you to the story of the Fifth Monk, which was shared with us by a special someone. It has continued to be on our minds and influence our work at KnowYourStar. The ripples of this story are seen everywhere, and we weren’t surprised when one of our guest columnists, Ashwin Karthik, wrote about it too in his Monday Truclusions.

The extended takeaway from the Fifth Monk for us was that it wasn’t about competing but collaborating. This direction has helped us immensely at Mentor India. By collaborating with people from different spheres of education, we were able to create the curriculum of Mitra Pustak, and with the collaborative efforts of many well-wishers and strangers (who now have a deep place in our hearts!), we were able to crowdfund and print the books.

The power of intention and collaboration has allowed us to delve deeper into the non-academic aspects of educating rural and underprivileged students, and concentrate on a long-term plan required to bring about a significant change in the lives of these bright kids.

Meanwhile, Team KYS has been working on a special project for the past couple of months, and more vigorously in the past week. The updates are a surprise you will have to wait a little longer for!
