Meet Our Summer Interns From MIT Manipal!
Our Chief Everything Officer, Pranita reminisces about the good old days in college, paying it forward and introduces our new KYS family members.
At KnowYourStar, one of our favourite things is going into flashback mode! Our recent developments have us swimming in a river of nostalgia. In the year 2012, Jaideep and I graduated as engineers from Manipal Institute of Technology. We were classmates, neighbours and locals! Over the years, we were fortunate to have developed a beautiful friendship and an amazing camaraderie. In spite of moving to different cities after college, our shared interests brought us back together to work on our passion project – KnowYourStar.
Flash forward to five years later – 2017! When we were presented with an opportunity to revisit our alma mater with internship opportunities for the third year students, you can only imagine the joy and humility we experienced. They say what goes around comes back around… and how! We often get together with our friends and reminisce about those golden college days, and dream about how great it would be to live that life again. It’s a dream come true to be able to offer these opportunities to students who are standing where we once were. It’s such a great feeling to be associated with MIT Manipal again and to live vicariously through our interns!
It’s time I introduced all of you to our 3 super-interns, who are busy shaping two of our long-time dream projects and making them a reality, by making it their own.
Jainam Shah – The Go-Getter
When Jainam applied for an internship with us, he sent his resume along with a message. After we read the message, we didn’t want to read anything else! We found an interesting spark in Jainam, even before getting a chance to know him personally or academically. In him, we saw a Go-Getter, which was the perfect quality for the project we had in mind for him!
Jainam is working on a project that we hope will help a lot of merit and economically backwards students get the chance to live their dreams. We hope that this project will save a lot of time and effort for these students, enabling them to concentrate solely on their studies. When we asked Jainam to express his thoughts about the project we were assigning him, his words resonated with our intentions, and we couldn’t ask for anything more.
Snigdha Kumar – The Silent Storm
Reading Snigdha’s resume made us believe in love at first sight. We were particularly impressed by her contribution to the Parikshit Student Satellite Team at MIT. Her desire to learn on the job and get a chance to serve noble causes at KnowYourStar was exactly what we were looking for! Snigdha is a sweet and soft-spoken girl but is a total badass when it comes to project execution!
The project Snigdha is working on is one that is very close to our heart. It’s pretty much what we set out to do when we started KnowYourStar. Five years of work has finally led us to developing something that we hope will take our efforts to the next level and help students in understanding and identifying their passion better. Snigdha’s perseverance and attention to detail are noteworthy. She has taken to the project like a fish to water and we can’t wait to see how things will unfold in the coming weeks!
Tanveer Sapra – The Calm Before The Storm
If you’ve noticed the repetition of the word “storm” in the name tags for Snigdha and Tanveer, it’s not for lack of words, my friends! It’s completely intentional. Tanveer and Snigdha are a team and are working on the same project remotely.
Tanveer brings calmness to the table, which is exactly what we have come to appreciate about him. Regardless of the roadblock, he calmly evaluates the problem and discusses the solutions with a lot of clarity. His ability to leave no stones unturned, and to make responsible and logical decisions is commendable. When Tanveer and Snigdha discuss the project in our Sprint calls, it’s always music to our ears. We are very eager to see the new heights that the project is going to reach with this dynamic team.
A Happy Bunch!
Having introduced our awesome trio to you, we just want to express our heartfelt gratitude to these interns. Jaideep and I eagerly wait for the Sprint Planning and Sprint Introspection calls on Monday and Friday mornings to imbibe some of their enthusiasm. We are very envious of Nandini, who gets to be in touch with these interns daily for Scrum meetings! Nandini is tirelessly working with our interns day and night, to help Jainam, Snigdha and Tanveer achieve their maximum potential with as few hurdles as possible.
On our last call, Jaideep asked us,“What would you guys do if I gave you an Alchemy Fund worth INR 1 crore?”
I meant it when I said, “I would reinvest it in KnowYourStar because I wouldn’t trade this Monday morning for anything else in the world!”
The beauty and joy of work that we get to see and experience on a very regular basis through KnowYourStar is the real salary that we withdraw every month! We are so grateful to our ecosystem for conspiring to give us this chance to serve for the greater good with the right people. KnowYourStar is now a happy and expanding family! 🙂
