Volunesia Comes A Complete Circle – Find Out How!

Volunesia Comes A Complete Circle – Find Out How!

After our last Volunesia where we enjoyed sunny skies and rainy clouds alike, we held another circle at Cubbon Park last Saturday. This time, we dedicated the circle to a special initiative taken up by one of our VOT (Volunesia Organising Team) members – Varsha.

Volunesia With A Theme

Varsha collected unused pages from discarded notebooks and stapled them together to make new books that can be used by the underprivileged kids near her home. We decided to cover the books with motivational art using paint, crayons, craft and other bits and pieces to make the books come alive!

We had a beautiful little turn out in spite of the unsure weather conditions. But as always, the sun and rain turned allies, and didn’t hamper our event in any way. In fact, we had rather pleasant weather throughout! Our joy was even more amplified when Varsha brought out her ‘chotu’ speaker and her awesome playlist. Her playlist seemed to have everyone’s favourite songs. How she managed to do that, we will never know! 😉

Volunesia On The Rocks

Walk-In Volunesia

Mr Santosh was just walking by with his two adorable daughters, when they stopped by to see what was happening. They decided to join us for a couple of minutes and ended up staying with us for a long time. We had so much fun with little Aditi and Niyati, painting one book after another while their father covered the books for them. We admired their seamless teamwork!

Soon we were also joined by Bama and her daughter, Kashvi. While Bama decorated one book after another efficiently, Kashvi made all of us laugh like never before with her hilarious quips! We found out that Kashvi means ‘Shining’ and we were so grateful for the light and energy she brought to the gathering.

When Ashik joined us later, he wasn’t sure how much he could contribute because he had not put pencil to paper for a long time. He started out sketching a tree that turned out so well that he couldn’t believe he still had his childhood skills! Gopal was passing by and found out what we were up to. In spite of being in a rush, he found time to decorate one book before heading off. This is a good example of the spirit of Volunesia, which keeps us going!

Meanwhile, Manu was there for his 5th consecutive Volunesia event, as usual playing the part of our nourisher! He brought us some prasad, sprouts, and yummy toffees. We were joined by Sanjay, towards the end of the circle, and he promised to come sooner next Volunesia. 🙂

Volunesia Underprivileged Kids

A Complete Circle

The special part of this circle, which made it one of the best Volunesias we’ve ever experienced, was the presence of 6 super kids! These kids were walking past us and were very curious about all the books and the art. We asked them to join us. Though shy at first, they began contributing one by one.

While Nandini drew pictures on the books, the kids coloured them in with crayons and lots of enthusiasm! While we chatted with the kids, we realised that they come from an underprivileged background themselves. The oldest of them all had dropped out after 10th standard and was now working in a flower decoration business with his father.

Volunesia Book Decoration Goodies

At the end of the circle, we thanked the kids for helping us decorate books for other children, and to recognise their efforts, asked them to pick any of the decorated books we had made that day. That was a beautiful Volunesia moment for all of us. Varsha was very happy to see her initiative executed and distributed on the same day, and so were we! After all, this is what Volunesia is really about! 🙂
