Volunesia Diaries – Riding The Time Machine To Childhood Every Saturday!

This time, Vikram Kumar Muthusamy Chelvi (Viku) from Talent Quest of India joined us for Volunesia last Saturday and here he goes expressing his experience!

As a TQI’an am always looking forward to see great things in people just as the name suggests – Talent Quest of India. In my opinion, Volunesia is no different from TQI’s motto where we ‘see’ talent in kids and amplify it rather than trying to ‘teach’ them. We hardly have anything to teach them, they know so much more!

Searching And Amplifying Strengths

We should never be surprised that kids overrun us in so many different ways. It’s an obvious thing that kids are smarter than us in this evolving world. I first saw a cellphone at the age of 12. Kids write code at 12 these days! To put it simply, they’re way smarter than us. But at Volunesia, I was lucky to witness it in action. I have always been a generalist; I run, fight, swim, cook, build, code and what not! I enjoyed that liberty and had the necessary resources to do so. And I am so happy to be one of the reasons that these kids get a chance to explore their skills.

To brief about my experience as a first timer in Volunesia, I would say “It was fun!!!”. I made new friends who are half my size but double my heart!

A Journey To The Outer Space

The first activity planned for the day was to transform these tiny tots into space nerds! We all know how fascinated we all were with the universe as kids. We wanted to give the kids a peek into the vast outer space, and started off with the solar system. With the gifted hand projector and tab, which was being used in this class for the first time, we transformed the classroom into a darkroom, and played a fun solar system video of a kid setting off to explore the solar system sitting on a rocket! The kids were excited beyond our imaginations.

I got an opportunity to do a quick recap of the solar system when we divided all the kids among all the volunteers to recreate the solar system with clay! We also got a chance to get creative and made a radiant smiling sun and cool planets with eyebrows! My group had these wonderful cute little girls who stole my heart to the point where I wanted next Saturday to start right away!

Volunesia – The Time Machine

After a fun and educational Voluensia session in the classroom, all the Volunesians headed to the other room to huddle in for the closing circle. While everyone shared their rich experiences, I also realized something. We grow up to confine ourselves to define us. Our thinking gets narrower. Our boundaries get so strong that we become weak to break them. I would say an adult’s knowledge with a kid’s perception would make futuristic technologies come true now! Yes, we were a better version of ourselves as kids, and it was my pleasure to relive my childhood in those two hours.

It’s actually a wonderful realisation that I can ride in this time machine every Saturday to do so! So, Volunesia – The Time Machine!
