Thursday Email – Celebrating Women’s Day By Making A Difference
Namaste!
Team KYS got a chance to celebrate Women’s Day in its true spirit. On March 5th, Nandini represented KYS in the Women’s Day Walk at Cubbon Park, Bangalore, to celebrate women with disabilities. Yesterday, we visited the Spastics Society of Karnataka and met some amazing women, who are trying to make life beautiful for thousands of differently abled students. The dedication and perseverance we saw in them moved something inside us.
Another reason why we were at SSK yesterday was to collect some beautiful paintings sketched/painted by Pranav Varma – an amazing artist! Just 17 years old, Pranav has been diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD) and is a student of SSK. You just give him a paper and a pen, and he will sketch an entire sheet non-stop in the matter of minutes, without using an eraser, without making any mistakes or even pausing for a second!
We felt Pranav is gifted, and we agreed when his teacher, Mrs Priya Rao (Lady in the centre in the selfie above!) told us she wanted to help him make a career in art. She doesn’t want him to be dragged into a monotonous role of data entry for a career, because that’s the only other option she would have for him. Not that the data entry career is any inferior, but if there’s a chance to nurture this raw talent Pranav possesses, we might just be looking at another Picasso in the making! Who knows?!
When we told Vilas Nayak – Asia’s leading fast painter about our idea of #ContentWithACause and connecting him with Pranav’s cause, he did not hesitate before saying YES! We are so grateful to him for agreeing to support us through this. There are four ways in which you can help Pranav, which is mentioned in the article. If there’s any other way you can think of helping Pranav, we are all ears and hearts! 🙂
We sign off for the week, leaving you with these lovely words Priya Ma’am had to share for Team KYS –
“Thanks for this wonderful gift you have given Pranav, featuring his art autobiography and profile under Content With A Cause to help him further his vocation in art. An appreciation from Vilas Nayak for children like Pranav will go a long way in bringing them into the forefront of the art community. The article is beautifully written with pictures of him so vibrant. Surely, he will begin to understand the value of his own efforts at art when his sketches are sold and he gets some money in his hand. We at SSK will promote his story amongst our circle of staff, donors and well wishers. Let me know if there is anything needed from our side. Thank You All.”
With gratitude, smiles and cheers, Pranita Bhat
